The former Conservative grandee, who had ambitions to be Prime Minister, admits he ended up doing what he was “second best at”, but is now a “better craftsman” than the author who initially incensed the literati. Jeffrey Archer has trimmed down the prose which prompted derision from literary critics complaining his tomes read “like a Christmas round-robin from a friend no one likes”. ![]()
